The Religion of Peace

The Religion of Peace

Peace, love, tolerance and respect are hallmarks
Of the Islamic mind, let no one
Dissuade you of this. The five pillars
Will hold all believing men in good stead.

Follow with all your heart the exalted Koran.
Treasure each and every word of the Hadiths.
Pray in the direction of the sacred Kabba.
Look after the sick and those poor of hand.

Always respect the name of the last Prophet
Peace be upon him, messenger of God
The Almighty, who must be obeyed
And adored more than your own earthly father.

Oh Subhan’allah! What joy it is, to read
And recite the history of this faith!
The non-violent spread of this ideal
Across lands deaf to the word of the Supreme.

Do not believe, those who dare lie through their teeth,
Pointing to wars, all around the globe,
Terrorist acts, suicide bombs,
And blaming these events on Islam.

The World must try to understand, seek
Knowledge of the peaceful ethics of life,
Learn the facts, that this religion is blameless
For the evils of the world.

Deep thoughts. Unfortunately, Islamic religion, personally for me, still has a strong association is terror.

I think this is very well put. I only hope there are more people that share this view...

I have always felt all religions teach love and brotherhood. It's on us how we interpret those.

Islam is NOT a religion of peace. Quite the opposite. Look around! Only the blind cannot see.

I am increasingly finding religion, unfortunately, to be used for ill gains. From a Muslim mother, I have read the Koran and found a number of disturbing things therein (including the references to slaves, infidels, and women). So too, have I looked at the Bible and found much violence. Food for thought.

Thank you Gautami, Comedy+ and Maryam for your comments.

My poem can be taken two ways. One as a defence of Islam, the other as a sarcastic attack on Islam. I will let the reader decide which that is. :)

According to today's Jewish Chronicle (May 4th) these terrorists had targeted 5 UK synagogues.

I like it, it gave me chills. I think that it is part of the broad scheme of things, to get religions or religion in general named as the incorrect target of blame for these things. It is not the religion.

This poem strikes the reader on many levels: the religious, wordly, social.

Thank you Jeremy, Anna and Anastasia for commenting on this post.

Jeremy: I didn't hear about their intended targets but attacking synagogues unfortunately wouldn't be surprising.

well islam has been pretty important in Europe in the Middle Age (In Spain).
And Europeans ...went to North Africa and exploited them...nobody talks about..

of course they also have a difficult situation. Tribal society, difficult. The climate - also difficult. They aren't rich anymore and there is no democrazy not a modern system. Not an economical system. Tribal rules huge families...
difficult.

how ever it is. interesting to read would be the book:
vidino: Al queda in Europe
