A Roar!
I've been awarded a Roar! by Mr Haddock of Marburg, an Englishman in Germany. Naturally I am extremely honoured. My poetry and short story writing has been rather lax recently and I'm happy people remember those posts. This blog was originally intended to be a reworking of the Bible, followed by the Koran, but due to complaints it eventually went from filthy sex manual to a collection of my poetry, stories and political observations.
Here are the details of the award: Those people I've given this award to are encouraged to post it on their own blogs; list three things they believe are necessary for good, powerful writing; and then pass the award on to the five blogs they want to honour, who in turn pass it on to five others, etc., etc. Let's send a roar through the blogsphere! The image at the top left can be copied and pasted onto other blogs. Also, a small size of the award for sidebars can be found over at the writing circle site.
My tips to good and powerful blog writing are:
- Try to keep copy & pasting down to a minimum. The online newspaper article or magazine humour is most likely riveting reading but only on the original site, not yours. Provide a link and write about it in your own words. When I see pages of quotes from other sources I usually move on.
- Spend time on all your blog posts. Correct spelling errors, grammatical mistakes and test its readability. Too many bloggers write a quick draft in order to get rid of the day's requirement post leaving it clear to readers that it has no emotion or devotion behind it. If you want a blog post to be linked to and your ranking to rise, then make each entry special, even if it's as simple as making the post look nice.
- Find a niche and write industriously on that particular theme. My niche is short stories about the people I see in public(flash literature) and poetry (both of which have been a little neglected recently). New niches will no doubt arrive. Find a writing subject, style or type that suits your personality and that you find interesting, then try to write at least four posts a week.
Sicily Scene: The tales of a cultured Welsh lady in Sicily. Wonderfully interesting posts especially for food lovers.
Nourishing Obscurity: A British heat seeking missile living in Russia. A vast array of different but interesting subjects are paraded for the reader's interest. Proud to say 'Merry Christmas' too!
Shades of Grey: The architecturally inclined Yorkshireman. Being an architecturally inclined Lancastrian (by birth) I have no hard feelings towards a thoroughly interesting and well written blog from across The Pennines.
Like Mr Haddock, I will choose just 3.

Cheers for that. You have given them to who I would have on first thought, so I'll have to cast my net a little wider.
Thank you, Beaman. I am honoured. I will put this award and my comments on it on my blog tomorrow. [I takes me ages to get images on so don't worry if it's after tomorrow!] I think your advice here is excellent.

I agree. Sorry Beaman, I couldn't resist.
Today I posted about blogging too because of a different award. I included the simple rules that I read when I first started out.
1. Write well (your rule 2)
2. Have something to say (your rule 3)
3. Mix it up.
Good choices for your awardees.
Thank you Shades, Welshcakes and jmb.
jmb: Mix it up is wonderful advice. :)
great tip, B-man
