I thought that cats CAN"T see themselves in mirrors... clearly an 'old wives tale'!!

I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but I don't think Lady Mildred's response to the image in the mirror has anything to do with the fact that she is FEMALE (ahem...)at all. In fact, I have personally observed a male cat exhibit the same behavior in the past. I think it has more to do with the fact that yes, they CAN see the reflection in the mirror moving in front of them, but aren't bright enough to realize that it isn't another kitty cat that they are seeing, but THEMSELVES! Perhaps it's some sort of territorial issue? I'm not sure, really. But my sister's cat is male and even growls when he passes by the mirror sometimes!

Aw bless Lady Mildred, my male cats often have a look at themselves in the mirror. Does that tell us something as to male behaviour?
